The great outdoors never smells as great as it does when the odor of camp food permeates the air. Eating the basic picnic type foods however does not guarantee a great culinary camping experience. It is important to use your imagination when creating the perfect camping treat. The food is usually going to be a little bit unsanitary so it is the perfect time to create your very own camping treat. Most people love the grilled taste of the dogs, burgers, chicken, and pork, but creating the one of a kind dessert treat is absolutely fantastic.
The open fire leads itself to many great camping treats. If you are lucky enough to find some insects lying around you can grill those up. Just put a nice fat little worm on a stick and crisp it up like a marshmallow. Then put it inside of a toasted marshmallow for a scrumptious camping dessert. If eating insects is not really your thing than at least give that treat to someone that you can prank around with. If you put the worm in the middle of a marshmallow and create a traditional s’more than you will likely fool them and they will not even know it. Great camping dessert specialists also bring along with them some bananas. The banana boat is a fairly new type of camping treat that is gaining popularity around the globe. To make a banana boat, simply split the banana in half lengthwise but don’t cut all the way through it. Then insert pieces of your favorite chocolate bar, some mini marshmallows, and some graham cracker squares into the banana slit. Next, wrap the banana up in some foil and place it in the coals of the fire. After about five minutes, pull it out of the fire and let it cool off for a few minutes. Finally, take a big bite of your banana boat and you will be the hit of the campground. If you are lucky enough to have some good friends around, you may also earn some free liquid desserts that are often available at campgrounds across the country.
Camping treats are great but you need to follow proper safety procedures. Make sure that when you are roasting your worms and marshmallows that you blow them out near the fire pit if they catch on fire. Some people have been severely burned by the flaming marshmallow. Flaming marshmallows are often created by children. This is when they pull their stick with the flaming marshmallow on it out of the fire really fast and the marshmallow flies off the stick. The marshmallow then becomes a fire ball and will burn instantly upon contact. Be cautious, be creative, and have a wonderful day camping.
